Almost done!

I'm relieved now because yesterday I did my last psych exam this spring! I studied quite a lot for it. Also, I had passed my psych of personality course (I didn't pass it a year ago). This was my last course of basic studies. My goal is that my bachelor's degree will be ready to the next year on this time. I can't wait for starting writing my bachelor's thesis! I'm so excited!

Still I have thing to do this spring. Although my psych studies has done at this moment I have courses in mathematics and English. I have one week time to finish my English ALMS course. I need eight hours more to my ALMS log (I have 62 hours already). I thinking what I have already done for my ALMS...

- writing in English to my blog
- translate lyrics of Nightwish from English to Finnish (I don't recommend!)
- watching Breaking Bad with English subtitles and write a review about the series
- writing a little text in Finnish and then translate it to English
- writing four texts (about different topics) for "Writing in General" -ALMS group
- talking in English a LOT in "Easy Talk" -ALMS group
- reading my psych book and take notes about vocabulary
- watching Game of Thrones and take sentences from there, translate these sentences or analyze structures of sentences

... Oh, now I realize how much work I have done for the course. It's all about studies! I have done something else, too.

I have tried to walking/jogging outside. Sometimes it's really hard to get outside because I'm stacking on my computer :P But when I get myself to outside it's really nice because there is almost summer! The weather is really warm and sunny. It's nice to walking at weather like this. We have also went for a walk with my friend and ate some ice cream (an ice cream of Helsingin Jäätelötehdas is the best!). I have to admit that I'm really huge friend of ice cream...

Two weekend ago we have meeting in my apartment with people of Bio-Klaani. We went to restaurant and for surprise I ate a HUGE dish of ice cream! That was really awesome (price was also ;_;).

A huge dish of ice cream!

I have also a new hobby! I have starting to be more interesting about baking. I have baked bread a couple of times. This week I cooked meat tortillas and they were really good. Maybe something sweet for the next baking time...

So many people around me

I'm sorry, I have been busy lately. The one of weekends I went to Jyväskylä see my high school friend. This spring I decided that I will fulfill my promise to visit there and it was really fun! At another weekend we had meeting with my friends of Bio-Klaani at my apartment. After that I went to see my relatives. Additionally I have tried to read for my exam. Now I will be at home for the whole Easter and just relax. It's nice feeling when you have been all the time with people and travelled around Finland and then you just can be at home alone. I'm happy that I have many social contacts but sometimes you have to be own time with yourself.

I just calculated that I still have to do about twelve hours for my ALMS course. I have two weeks time to get English AMLS course ready. My studying ideas are starting to end. Maybe I will find some way...

I have baked a lot. I realized that homemade bread is really good. Now I just need bread pan. Thanks to Snowie I also tried to make banana pancake. It was really sweet and I liked it but you can't eat it so much at a time. I think that my roommate liked it more than I.

I haven't a job for the summer. Then I might to studying part of my summer. The problem is that there isn't so many courses which I can include in my degree. Anyways, I will still enjoy my summer! I can't wait for the summer of Finland!

About positive thinking

Recently I have been thinking about positive psychology a lot. It concerns a human’s wellbeing, strengths, resources and how these can be maintained. Usually people don’t stop to think about some matter’s good points. I think that Finns especially are people who think a lot about bad things like ”what an awful weather”. Positive psychology focuses on human’s strengths, not on weaknesses or bad sides. The main point is that you can find positive ways even in a hard situation.

I have been trying to think in a more positive way about everything. I noticed that it was a really difficult at the start but it will became easier. I think that I got into a better mood from a way of positive thinking. Maybe this method can be applied to everything. A good example is studying English.
I have thought that I’m bad in English for my whole life. Of course I’m bad in English when I’m thinking like this! I have been trying to change my attitude about studying English since junior high school years. Yes, I have progressed but not enough.

My ALMS course is developing me a lot. I have got more self-confidence when I use English. This self-confidence is the main point. If you don’t trust yourself then you don’t use English so much. I have noticed that I have an ear or a spine for  English language, but I don’t trust it because I really don’t believe that I have this ”correct language spine” –but it’s often right. Maybe my course books in English have affected this.

I’m a proud of myself because my English teachers understand my speech. My texts are full of little mistakes but I don’t focus on them because I have written understandable text! For the first time in my life English lessons are nice in the university. I can give advice to tourists in English. I understand my course books which are full of complicated psychology terms. I have been writing in English in my blog. The question is how can I not be good at English?

The big destination

This spring I have a goal to be better in English. Besides this I have also another big destination. This week I started "the skills of life" course which is meant for students. I think that the course can be very useful to everyone. My first year in the University of Helsinki was really hard and in the future I want that my psyche will not crash again. Therefore my destination is to be mentally stronger and then life will be more in balance.

This course is very interesting. In the first lecture we learned that the good life consist of many things and positivism is a big resource. A regularl day rhythm with enough sleep, food and exercise is very important. Because I'm the member of Bio-Klaani, I have a bad habit to stay awake for too long at night. Now I have decided that I will not stay awake so long (you can laugh) and I also will not to sleep so long in the morning. Also, I will create a sleep rhythm for myself!

The second big idea which I get from the course is positivism. People thinking too much bad things about itselves and "what's wrong with this and that thing...". Why are we always so negative about everything? You are happier when you focus on the positive things more than the negative! I decided that I will try this in my own life. For example, when something goes wrong, I try to think what's good about this? Did I learn from my mistakes or something else?

Finally I promise to always use stairs and use not an elevator. Like this I can exercise such that I almost don't notice. I have to reveal that at the moment I'm a really lazy to exercise but I try to change it.

Ugh. There are so many promises. But I will keep them all!

Worms and mud cake

Hello all little worms! Today I cooked porridge and found a worm from there. I realized that the worm had come from my (out of date) oatmeals. Yes, that's important to tell you. Yesterday I baked a mud cake and burned my finger :I I'm not very good cooking.

What have I done?  I study, study and study. But studying is fun! How can I say like this? I have still one essay to write but before that I have to read four research articles. And day after tomorrow I'll have an exam about academic writing. Furthermore I calculate math :3 I really like my studies. I hope I'll have time to study an extended minor about maths.

My English studies. Oh well. I have had many English lessons now. My lessons are about "writing in general" and "easy talk". I think this'll be a good combination for me because I have to write and speak a lot this spring. Also I have to say that our English teachers are awesome and really supportive. Maybe I'll still find a way to learn prepositions.

There are two weeks until my winter holiday. At that time we also have our Clan's meeting :P A good time have fun then.

From a lonely (Valentine's) weekend

Hi! It's in English now!

I think that I start writing to my blog in English for the next three months. I have ALMS English course at the university and because of that I have to study English for 75 hours by myself. I'm sorry that you will read my bad English from here on but I will improve and you can correct my mistakes!

To learn English is difficult for me because of my light dyslexia. I need lots of time to learn and some new study techniques to study such as this blog. I have decided that I will write a lot this spring and watch a tv-series in English or with English subtitles. I have a bad habit to put Finnish sub on but now I will bury it! I'm also planning that I will read and listen English lyrics and then translate unknown words. Usually I don't pay attention to lyrics because I'm not used to it.

Last weekend I finished watching Breaking Bad with English sub. That's an awesome and very exciting series. You have to watch it! I also wrote a little essay of my past English studies which is like a sine curve in maths :D At the same time I realized that my English word order sucks. Besides I translate straight from Finnish into English. That's bad. But I can't think in English! Maybe I will make progress in that too... For last I realized that I have problems with verbs ”be” and ”have”. What’s the difference and when can I put ”have” and when ”be”? Somehow it's a very hard for me differentiate these terms.

Now I will promise to write in the blog at least for once a week. I think that's a good way for me to learning English. Let's see, how I will succeed :3 And now I 'm going to watch Under the Dome on TV :P
